Common Questions
Server Lag
Common causes of lag and how to improve performance
Server lag is usually caused by how the server is being used — not the host itself. Common causes include:
- Plan too small — not enough RAM or CPU for your player count, plugins, or mods
- Too many plugins or mods — each one adds overhead
- High entity count — mob farms, item entities, or animals piling up
- Redstone contraptions — large or unoptimized builds running constantly
- High view distance — lower it in
server.propertiesto reduce load - World size — very large or heavily explored worlds use more resources
What to try
- Upgrade your plan if you're near your resource limits — check CPU and memory on the Overview tab
- Remove unused plugins or mods
- Lower view-distance and simulation-distance in
server.properties - Clear laggy chunks or entity buildup with plugins or manual cleanup
- Restart the server during low-traffic periods
If lag persists after optimizing, consider upgrading via Change Plan or contact Support.
